Disc Screen
Disc Screen

The disc screen is used for separating inert waste and small-sized materials. The discs of the screen rotate continuously, causing the materials on the screen surface to move and vibrate. Gaps between the discs allow materials to be separated according to their size and weight.

In municipal solid waste (MSW) and solid waste treatment processes, separation is an essential step. Control of the feed size often determines the overall efficiency of the entire sorting process. The disc screen is therefore widely used for separating inert waste and small-sized materials.

Features of the Disc Screen

The disc screen features a simple process design, convenient installation and maintenance,and easy operation. It occupies a small footprint and helps reduce investment costs. The equipment operates smoothly and reliably, with low power consumption and energy usage. A cleaning device is installed inside the screening body to prevent clogging of the screen openings.

In the screening of municipal solid waste, the disc screen has greatly surpassed traditional equipment such as trommel screens, bar screens, and vibrating screens in terms of processing capacity and separation efficiency.

The oversize materials separated by the disc screen mainly consist of combustible materials such as waste paper, plastics, and rags, while the undersize materials may include organic matter, small-sized combustibles, sand, gravel, glass, and other inert materials.

Working Principle

The disc screen uses a disc arrangement structure to define the screening gap size,allowing materials smaller than the preset gap size to pass through. The processing capacity of this disc screen is three times that of a traditional trammel screen of the same size, while the screening efficiency is 1.5 times higher. The discs rotate continuously, causing the materials on the screen surface to move and vibrate. The spacing between discs enables separation according to material size and weight.

Depending on the machine width, 15–20 screening discs can be installed on a single shaft. The number of shafts can be increased according to the required processing capacity. A motor drives the shafts to rotate synchronously. Compared with other types of screening equipment, which are easily clogged by wet waste materials, the rotating discs of the disc screen prevent material accumulation and effectively eliminate screen clogging.

Disc Screen – Features:

  • The screening aperture size is determined by the opposing disc structure. Screen openings ranging from 25–120 mm can be selected and customized according to specific requirements.
  • It can effectively replace a trommel screen. The processing capacity is four times that of a traditional trommel screen of the same size, while the screening efficiency is 1.5 times higher.
  • Variable frequency drive (VFD) control is adopted, providing low energy consumption, high safety, and adjustable processing capacity.
  • Equipped with special wear-resistant sprockets and chain linkage, along with a proprietary chain tensioning design, ensuring high operational stability.
  • Modular design, allowing customers to select the appropriate number of modules based on requirements, making maintenance and structural adjustment convenient.
  • In terms of processing capacity and separation performance, it has significantly surpassed traditional screening equipment such as trommel screens, bar screens, and vibrating screens.
  • Suitable for various types of solid waste, including municipal solid waste (MSW), construction and demolition waste, aged landfill waste, and food/kitchen waste.
