Air Separator

With continued national focus on the recycling and utilization of construction waste resources, current construction waste treatment typically involves crushing demolished or discarded materials using jaw crushers and impact crushers, followed by vibrating screening to produce recycled aggregates.

During this process, reinforcing steel can be removed through magnetic separation and conveyed away by magnetic belt conveyors. However, lightweight impurities such as wood boards, plastics, torn fabrics, and other debris often remain mixed within the recycled aggregates and cannot be effectively removed simultaneously.

Through the combined action of controlled positive and negative airflow, the system effectively separates lightweight and small materials from heavier fractions. Features of the Full Magnetic Tech. Specific Gravity Air Separator :

  • The feed conveyor utilizes a high-speed belt system, ensuring uniform material distribution and enhancing separation efficiency. An optional disc material distributor can further improve air separation performance.
  • The blower outlet allows adjustable air volume, air velocity, and air pressure, enabling flexible control over the types of materials being separated. The separation drum can classify large-volume combustible materials into the light fraction as required.
  • The light-material settling chamber is constructed with 2–3 mm galvanized steel plates, providing both corrosion resistance and structural durability.
  • The exhaust duct is equipped with connection ports for dust collection and deodorization systems, effectively reducing surrounding air pollution. The air chamber operates under negative pressure, minimizing dust emissions.

The system can be configured with either a single-drum or dual-drum air separation unit according to sorting requirements. All functional modules are designed with a modular structure, allowing flexible addition or reduction of functions and facilitating maintenance. This product mainly consists of a housing, frame, air supply system, return air system, and conveying system. The air supply and return air systems work together to create a controlled airflow pattern inside the chamber, which drives lightweight waste materials forward to the discharge hopper of the conveying system. Both sides of the conveying system are equipped with sealing plates and rubber guide chutes, effectively preventing plastic materials from wrapping around the lower belt rollers. The fan air inlet can be adjusted according to the characteristics of the processed materials, providing high operational flexibility.

The air separator, also known as a density separator or specific gravity screen, is a traditional separation method widely used in solid waste treatment and resource recovery industries. In developed regions such as Europe and North America, air separators are considered essential equipment in solid waste processing and recycling systems.


Working Principle

The air separator operates based on aerodynamic principles. Through the combined action of controlled positive and negative airflow, lightweight and small materials are separated from heavier materials. Light materials are carried upward or horizontally into a settling chamber, where the materials are separated from the airflow. The light fraction is discharged via a lightmaterial conveyor. Heavy materials, which cannot be supported by the upward airflow due to their weight,settle onto the heavy-material discharge conveyor and are transported out of the system.
